Jefferson Park, Scout Lake sunset by greglief Jefferson Park, Scout Lake sunset by greglief
Thank you for taking the time to visit my gallery. Faves and comments are always appreciated! Also, I invite you to download this image to use as desktop wallpaper. Please respect my work by not printing, selling, or reposting it.

This is another of my favorite photos from Jefferson Park, which is located in the Mount Jefferson Wilderness area at the base of Mount Jefferson (10,497 feet elevation... second highest mountain in the state of Oregon). Scout Lake provides many terrific vantage points, especially at sunset.

NOTE: When displayed at its default size, the photo may appear a bit "soft". FULL VIEW is highly recommended for better appreciation of detail.

(Nikon D70, Nikon 12-24 lens, circular polarizer, f/13, 1/1.3 second, handheld!)

Im putting together a website for my boyscout troop and I was wondering if I could use this as my background?
Our website now is dull and boring, and my scout master has given me an opurtunity to make it look nice, and I'd like to show him the skills I have to put together a nice website and this would make a BEAUTIFUL background. Thanks :)

I still cannot believe that that photo was handheld. I foolishly left my tripod at home on that backpacking trip, so I was trying long exposures for the reflection upon the lake. Normally my hands are not that steady!

The dark, deep, and mysterious water is at once appealing and a little scary, too. I like the overall effect and that wonderful, calm water surface that shows off the sky colors so beautifullyl.

I wasn't attempting anything frightening with the water. But now that you mention it, I can see that angle. My overall intention was more calming than unnerving. Sorry!

No apologies needed, Greg. Some things are just not easily explained. Feeling safe all the time might get to be boring. I'm not a daredevil, but neither would I want to watch TV all day. A little adventure is good, even if a tiny bit 'scary.' I scare easily anyway!

I like a good adventure (especially off-trail bushwhacking/scrambling), but I try not to make my photographs particularly frightening. I can only think of one exception, and it was only because the location terrified the s**t out of me! [link]

It would terrify me, too. I can't take heights, especially when close to the edge. It makes me feel faint almost. I could NOT have taken that lovely picture, Greg, but kudos to you that you did it!

This looks wonderful, the reflection in the water is lovely and I like how the trees form a dark barrier between the mountain and the water.

Oh Mt Jefferson... Spent the summers of 1975, and 1976 working at Camp Pioneer in the shadow of that wonderful mountain.
Sure miss it.
Very nice job.
