Looking West from McCall Point by greglief Looking West from McCall Point by greglief
Thank you for taking the time to visit my gallery. Faves and comments are always appreciated! Also, I invite you to download this image to use as desktop wallpaper. Please respect my work by not printing, selling, or reposting it.

Tom McCall Point is in the eastern Columbia River Gorge. In early May the balsamroot and lupine display attracts hundreds of visitors. This photograph was taken facing west, toward the Memaloose Hills. You can see the Columbia River, and the Hood River Bridge in the distance, and Mount Defiance (4,960 feet elevation) looms in the very "back" of the frame.

NOTE: When displayed at its default size, the photo may appear a bit "soft". FULL VIEW is highly recommended for better appreciation of detail.

(Technical Notes: Nikon D90, Nikon 18-200mm lens, circular polarizer, f/6.3, 1/250 second -- unfortunately there was a lot of wind so I was not able to use a smaller aperture, but I think it still turned out alright)

Scenery shots like this are one of many reason why I love living in Washington. :)

Great shot Greg! :clap:  You do great work! I don;t live too far from you I guess, since I've photographed near the Columbia River gorge area on the WA side. =)

You are braver than I am... wandering the fields! omfg At Rowena Plateau and Tom McCall Point, with the ticks and poison oak (and occasional rattlesnake), I never dare to venture more than a few steps off the trail.

Thick jeans and high leather boots help. But I walk slowly and check for ticks and listen for snakes and to make sure I'm not stepping on a snake haha. Poison oak I am always watching for. I prefer not to wander the fields though hahahaha

The massive DOF really makes this shot. I know what you mean about the wind as I live in a wind tunnel. The only time the flowers aren't moving is at night which makes it difficult if you want to use natural light.lol  As much as I like to shoot at ISO 100 sometimes noise is a better option than blur.

Thank you, Ken. That is a good point about increasing the ISO to allow for a faster shutter speed. So many trade-offs... {sigh}
