Majestic Falls Rainbow by greglief Majestic Falls Rainbow by greglief
Thank you for taking the time to visit my gallery. Faves and comments are always appreciated! Also, I invite you to download this image to use as desktop wallpaper. Please respect my work by not printing, selling, or reposting it.

During one of my frequent visits to Majestic Falls (at McDowell Creek County Park near Lebanon, Oregon), I was very lucky with the timing. There was just enough sun to create this rainbow, yet not so much as to ruin the exposure upon the water.

If you enjoy this photo, please take a few moments to visit my Waterscapes gallery.

I was simply very, very fortunate. I was not expecting a rainbow that day... I had positioned the tripod to take a shot of the creek, and then the rainbow appeared!

This rapids look so beautiful, it looks like the water was all blurred and painted. Very beautiful picture!

heh McDowell Cr Falls and I have a special relationship. I fell down the Royal Terrace Falls once. Have a great scar but didnt do any serious damage. That was the beginning of my long and epic battle with gravity. Love that place :)

Yeah that's a once in a lifetime shot. Shots like that usually com when you aren't set up and go away before you get set up.

True. For this, the tiger lily, and the penstemon photos, I was technically prepared for the shot, and the rainbow/bee suddenly appeared. Had I not already been ready, I wouldn't have gotten any of those three shots.

When I viewed the photo with the bee, I was thinking "he was doing a macro flower shot and got lucky!"

That was exactly the case with the tiger lily shot. I was already prepared for the macro shot, and suddenly the bee flew into the frame! With the penstemon shot, I happened to be hiking by and found myself surrounded by lots of bees buzzing around me. When I saw them vanishing into the penstemon, I got out the camera which already had the macro lens installed. If I had had the wide-angle lens (which is on my camera 99% of the time), I wouldn't have had time to get that shot.

Thanks. McDowell Creek County Park (between Lebanon and Sweet Home) is another spot you might want to visit at some point. Think of it as a miniature Silver Falls SP. :)

Thanks ... wow!! Those are really beautiful and exactly what I'd imagined ... some wonderful warm colors to really give the entire scene some POP! That's really the problem w/ any of my waterfall shots, they don't have that extra ingredient to make them special.

In my humble opinion, Summer is the least interesting season in which to photograph waterfalls (unless, of course, they are in the mountains and thus only accessible during summer). During Spring, the water flow is higher and the greens are greener, and during Autumn you can also get the nice colors.

Aw shucks... it's very nice of you to say that. It took quite a while to achieve moderate proficiency. Lots of time, effort, and thousands of discarded slides!

Yes, but nothing substantial. I slightly darkened the area to the right of the rainbow. The water is completely unchanged.

HA! It was under a big rock in the middle of the creek. The water was a bit too cold and swift that day, so I left it alone. :)
