Pup Creek Falls by greglief Pup Creek Falls by greglief
Thank you for taking the time to visit my gallery. Faves comments, and collecting are always appreciated! Please respect my work by not printing, selling, or reposting it.

Located along the Clackamas River Trail in Oregon's Mount Hood National Forest, Pup Creek Falls drops over 200 feet in three tiers. It is one of my favorite waterfalls, because it is really three waterfalls in one... each of the tiers is very different. It requires nearly an 8 mile round-trip hike, but I think it is well worth the effort.

NOTE: When displayed at its default size, the photo may appear a bit "soft". FULL VIEW is highly recommended for better appreciation of detail.

If you enjoy this photo, please take a few moments to visit my Waterscapes gallery.

(Nikon D70, Nikon 12-24 lens, circular polarizer, f/18, 1/2.5 second, Bogen/Manfrotto tripod)

Gorgeous. Did you have to shoot this with a wide-angle lens?

Yes, I used my wide-angle lens to get the entire waterfall. (I just updated the description to include that information, along with the shutter speed and aperture.) It would theoretically be possible to use a "normal" lens and get most/all of it in the frame, but you would have to stand further back which would involve a somewhat obstructed view because of brush and foliage.

I can see why. We have some quite decent falls here in Norway as well, but not as amazingly photogenic as this one, I deem. (At least not in front of my lense) :)

It's a bit of a hike... 3.5 miles one-way. But I think it is worth the effort. Trail information can be found here: [link]

Hey thanks for the link. There are many reasons to visit Oregon and this is another one for me...was there 5 years ago...may be time visit again soon...last time I spent too much time getting my ass kicked surfing and not enough time taking pictures!

Although I'm not into surfing myself, there's certainly nothing wrong with that! Better than staying inside. :)

well after the waves and rocks almost ended my existence I have officially retired from surfing!

That sounds like a wise decision! I did somewhat the same, except that I never began surfing in the first place. :D

Scweheeet falls. Would suggest just a bit of a crop to eliminate the bright top section or at least most of it. Nice work

I agree about the top section. I cropped a fair amount already, but perhaps I should crop a bit more.

Stunning is probably the best superlative I could give this. The long exposure which creates just one, long, stream of water really works well against the gorgeously green woodland beside it. :+fav:
