On Memorial Day, I planned to make my annual pilgrimage to the wildflowers in the Dog Mountain summit meadows, but the weather was not favorable. Instead, I went to nearby Dog Creek and explored a little-known waterfall. Dog Creek Falls is easily reached and moderately photogenic, but the real beauty is slightly upstream.
Unfortunately, it requires a lot of physical effort to visit. First, you have to scale the rock face next to Dog Creek Falls -- it can be done without climbing equipment, but it is not for everyone. Then you have to cross the creek, and there is no way to avoid getting wet. Finally, you have to climb up a loose rock slope. The distance is relatively short, but the degree of exertion is quite high. I hope that you enjoy it, because I really had to work for this one.
I have indeed. I used to own a B+W ND6, but have not yet replaced it since getting all my camera gear stolen last year.
It definitely opens some interesting loooooong exposure possibilities. I used it for a three minute exposure of Wahclella Falls in December 2009. I need to get another one!
Not really. I took these shots from a steep hillside directly across from the waterfall. It would theoretically be possible to wade upstream in the creek, but the spray (at least during times of decent water flow) would make it impossible to keep the lens dry.
