Located in Oregon's Columbia River Gorge, Wahe Falls is somewhat of a Holy Grail for hard-core waterfall hunters. It involves every manner of physical obstacle (no trail, half a mile of creek wading, climbing a sheer rock face, thorns, and chest-high poison oak). I ended up bushwhacking down a steep crumbly hill and along the creek in darkness (though fortunately I remembered to bring my headlamp). I also contracted a nasty case of poison oak that drove me insane for the following week.
NOTE: When displayed at its default size, the photo may appear a bit "soft". FULL VIEW is highly recommended for better appreciation of detail.

I think this is my favorite view, but only by a hair. They both are lovely, and it's hard to describe the way one feels seeing such great natural beauty. I always enjoy your work, Greg.
Thank you for your thoughtful comments, Jean. It is impossible for me to decide, hence both postings. Although they don't really detract, the moving ferns in the lower right corner of this study are a bit annoying to me. But there was nothing to be done about it. If I had gone with a much faster shutter speed, the water would have looked much less aesthetically pleasing. {sigh}
I just now looked back at the ferns, and I can see that they're a bit fuzzy in the corner. But because they are all the same shade of green as the background, they don't catch one's eye. The very first thing you see is the waterfall. The second thing is the green surround. The corner really doesn't catch one's eye at first, and would never have if you hadn't said something about it. Tell people you MEANT it to be that way!
"Tell people you MEANT it to be that way" HA! No, I don't mind admitting imperfections. Often I will [non-destructively] hold foliage out of the frame when I know that it will move during a long exposure. But my vantage point for this photo was too far away from the ferns. I would say that I will try a different vantage point next time, but I am NEVER going to return to this waterfall... it nearly killed me!
No, there's no point in dying for art. That's just nuts. Anyway, you captured it nicely, and that's enough! I admit perfections, too; in fact, I would never, ever say "I meant it to be that way" if that wasn't true. And I know you wouldn't either! I was just jokin' Politicians do that sort of thing a lot; I guess I've lived around D.C. way too long.
